A very thoughtful gift: All About New York – An Intimate Guide ©1931

I received the most thoughtful gift in the mail this week from my mom and grandmother. A Guide to New York published in 1931, it is so interesting to see what has changed and what hasn't. In those days hotels ran from $3.50 - 5.00 a night and due to prohibition you had to be particularly cautious of nightclubs.

an excerpt: "Don't go to any night club recommended by unknown guides or taxi drivers. Don't go to restaurant or night club off the main avenues and streets and don't buy and drink liquor even if some of the places will sell it to you."

interesting times...look forward to a complete read this weekend.

many thanks Mom & Granny!
