sketches circa 1999

Cleaning out some of my old portfolio cases i came across these sketches from a life drawing session - circa 1999. About that time I traded my pen & paper for mouse & computer, but now almost a decade later I think these were just the inspiration i needed to get back to the drawing table.

Japanese Privet Flower arrangement

These are the flowers (pre-bloom) from our Japanese Privet and by far my favorite flower arrangement of the season.

nice little bird feeder

My mom and grandma are crazy about their bird feeders. For the most part they are not concerned with design of a particular feeder, but with the function of keeping the squirrels out of the feed.

When I saw this feeder I thought...why that is a perfect little feeder, and it looks like it would present quite the obstacle for our fuzzy little bird feed hunters. Mom, looks like I found you a birthday gift. via feel more human

Our Moonlit Celebration

A week ago today my husband, Chuck Heilig and I hosted a party at GoldBug Island to celebrate our marriage. It was a beautiful, moonlit night that reminded me how fortunate I am to have such wonderful friends and family. Many thanks to all that made the trip to Charleston to celebrate with us. more photos on flickr.

In this photo (from left to right), Lyn Tally, Chuck Heilig, Emily Lawrence (me), Helen Rice & Josh Nissenboim.

Photo booth

Created by Keetra Dean Dixon this booth is presented in semi-public spaces as a typical photobooth holding no denotation of it's unique qualities. Users enter the booth, pose for 2 shots & exit as usual. During the developing process, the photos are "analyzed" & customized with forecasts consisting of patterns, symbols & messages.

Functioning as an unexpected myth builder - myth as fantasy, deception, unfounded explanation of the unknown, & social legend - the booth is designed to:

* Surprise & delight its audience
* Encourage an openness to play & create social relation through confrontation of the unexpected
* Stimulate multiple emotions simultaneously (confusion, excitement, inspiration, vulnerability, selfconciousness) by inducing a mini "transcendent/synesthetic" experience similar to having a crush, falling asleep, lucid dream...
* Encourage patience & optimism in unexpected circumstances
