my first cellphone

Found this in a shoebox the other day. Check that antenna – I would pull it out with my teeth before taking/making a call – circa 2002.

One of my favorite presents...

My grandmother knitted me these socks for christmas - take a closer look and see that they are identical from top to bottom, plus she knitted with a thin thread of nylon so that they have a snug fit! Love these, thank you Granny!

Now we're thumpin' - I finally got my hands on a Twelve South BassJump. Start up was super easy - my bass was boosted and preferences were optimized in literally two minutes. Oh, and check out the vintage-inspired design of the preferences - flawless!

Give it up for another fantastic product from Twelve South! A perfect holiday gift for the macbook owner in your life.

Magazine of the future

Mag+ from Bonnier on Vimeo.

The folks at Bonnier R&D and BERG have created a prototype of what the magazine of the future might look like. Great insights, and beautifully shot concept video (wonder what camera they used)...

DIY Shower curtain

Grain, a design studio based in Washington, took that idea of customization and applied it the Ty D.I.Y. Edition, a shower curtain set that provides a blank shower curtain as a “canvas” where you can draw your own custom designs on. The shower curtain is durable, recyclable, machine-washable, and more resistant to mildew.

MOG: Music service

Just finished up my 1 hour trail of MOG's new music on demand service - great experience, plus the "radio slider" is a great way to discover new music. If they offer a mobile solution i would be very tempted to subscribe.

Herb Lubalin Study Center of Design & Typography

I love NYC, treasures are lurking around every corner! Yesterday we went to the Herb Lubalin Study Center of Design and Typography at the Cooper Union.

On view in the gallery was an installation of Lubalin's original sketches, magazines, logotypes, and posters selected from the Lubalin Center Archive.

It was such a treat to experience the real deal - not just some 2x2" thumbnail in a history book. See some additional photos from the exhibit here.

1st ikea trip.

our halloween weekend was eventful, but not in the way one might imagine. It included 2 attempts to go to ikea, and finally making it (after taxi + 1 mile sprint across battery park + water taxi, and thats just getting there)

But wait, it gets better. We got home and up our 5 floor walk up to only discover we picked up the WRONG box...now chuck has the most unusual office chair (faux white leather - with black plastic trim - close eyes. imagine.) I'm trying to figure out how we can hide it in the closet while not in use..

Note: at the moment this chair is wearing a blue tshirt that says "sweet", giggles.

A piece of nostalgia

for maggie, ben, bet + lawrence cousins

I was walking around the east village over the weekend, and was shocked to come across this sunflower needlepoint piece. My grandmother made this exact piece in the 70s and it hung in her home in Tarboro NC.

yeasayer + tanlines + guggenheim

From the yeasayer and tanlines show at the guggenheim over the weekend. Download the new yeasayer single, ambling alp here, complete album out 2/2010...yeah!
